A deer hunting crossbow is one of many tools you can use to cleanly take down a deer or other game animal. Many hard core bow hunting enthusiasts are completely against the use of crossbows and many are not. I view crossbows for hunting differently than bows for hunting, but value them both.
In my opinion all hunting methods require a good amount of practice and skill. It is the hunters skill that gets him or her the kill and the hunting tools used just aid them in doing so. Many hunters start off with using a rifle and then move onto crossbows and bows.
This may be a good idea since firing a rifle is less forgiving and tends to be a bit easier. However, you can start off hunting in any way you like, the order really does not matter. You may even find that your love of using your deer hunting crossbow makes it easier to hunt with than hunting with a rifle.
When searching for a deer hunting crossbow or any other crossbows for sale, make sure you choose one with enough draw weight to take a deer down cleanly. You’ll want to be able to pierce both lungs of the dear so that they will die a quick death.
Deer Hunting Crossbow Tips
The best way to pierce both lungs of the dear is to shoot them from the appropriate direction. You’ll need to hit them broadside or quartering away. If you hit them from any other angle, you will not be able to pierce both lungs. This means that the deer may end up running for miles before finally dying a painful death.
Also keep in mind that a deer hunting crossbow is still a bow and you will have to deal with trajectory. This means that if you deer is far away, you may have to aim a bit higher to have it land where you want it to land. The crossbow manufacturer should tell you how many inches to adjust based off of how far away you are.
You’ll find that although a crossbow range isn’t nearly as long as a rifle’s range, it is still enough that you do not have to be right on top of the deer to get a kill.
If your searching for a high quality deer hunting crossbow, you may want to check with some of your local stores first. Once you’ve gotten a good handle on which crossbows you’d like to purchase, you can always go back home and do some price shopping on the Internet.
